Please join us for the inaugural Lea K. Green Artist Talk featuring Carrie Mae Weems, one of the most influential contemporary American artists working today. For over thirty years, Weems has developed a complex body of work, employing a diversity of media, including photographs, text, fabric, audio, digital images, installation, and video. Hosted by Thelma Golden, Director and Chief Curator at the Studio Museum, the program will explore the evolution of Weems practice over the past three decades, and discuss current and upcoming projects. Unpacking the full trajectory of the artist’s bold, multidisciplinary practice; the discussion begins with Weems inclusion in Urban Home (1990) then the role subsequent museum exhibitions have played in her evolution as an artist, including: African Queen (2005), The Bearden Project (2012), When The Stars Begin to Fall; Imagination and the American South (2014), and her solo exhibition at the Studio Museum, Carrie Mae Weems: The Museum Series (2014).
