Join us for our next Studio LIVE program featuring Ari Melenciano. Melenciano is a designer, creative technologist and researcher who is passionate about exploring the relationships between various forms of design and sentient experiences. She is a creative technologist at Google's Creative Lab, professor at NYU's Interactive Telecommunications Graduate Program, and founder of Afrotectopia—a social institution that is imagining, researching, and building at the nexus of new media art, design, science, and technology through a Black and Afrocentric lens. Her award-winning work has been supported and exhibited by a variety of institutions including Sundance, The New Museum's New Inc, The New York Times, and Philadelphia's Museum of Art. She is often guest lecturing at universities around the world.

During the program, Melenciano will sit in conversation with Legacy Russell, Associate Curator, Exhibitions to discuss intersections across the African diaspora as empowered technologies in and of themselves as well as the social impact of new media practice on arts and culture. The pair will also explore what the “future” can look like through the lens of Black radical imagination, an urgent question as it comes up against ongoing discourse framed by Afropessimist thought and methodology.

To watch the talk, visit the Studio Museum’s Instagram page at 1:00 pm EDT.
