Join us for an evening celebrating the multiplicity of trans* and gender-nonconforming lives and creative practices. Curated by poet and visual artist Anaïs Duplan, this program explores various modes of trans* embodiment and coincides with Duplan’s forthcoming interview with the New York City Trans Oral History Project. The evening will feature a discussion with Duplan and poet xtian w, poetry readings, and a DJ set by Quest?onmarc. Presented in partnership with the New York City Trans Oral History Project, this program is accompanied by In Conversation: Kiyan Williams and Darnell Moore in a duet of programs that will explore the lives and creative practices of trans* and gender-nonconforming artists of African descent.
Anaïs Duplan is a trans* poet, curator, and artist. He is the author of a forthcoming book of essays on Black art and creativity, Blackspace (Black Ocean, 2019), a full-length poetry collection, Take This Stallion (Brooklyn Arts Press, 2016), and a chapbook, Mount Carmel and the Blood of Parnassus (Monster House Press, 2017).
xtian w is a genderqueer poet & performer whose work has appeared in VIDA, [PANK], No, Dear, & Bone Bouquet, among others. Current interests include hysteria, walking while femme, the coding of New York City-scapes, and long poems as movement practice.
Quest?onmarc is an unpredictable performance talent, delivering eclectic, high energy sets that connect their own productions with technical DJ’ing, dancing, MC’ing, live elements, and select sounds from around the world.
