Adult Programs, Art-Making Workshops

Guided by The Black School and alumni of The Studio Museum in Harlem's Museum Education Practicum, this hands-on workshop invites participants to string intention beads inspired by Malcolm X's legacy of community healing and self-determination. Drawing on a selection of beads sourced from the Malcolm Shabazz Harlem Market and beauty supply shops surrounding the site of Masjid Malcolm Shabazz (formerly known as Mosque No. 7), participants will transcribe one intention for every bead they string. This workshop offers a space to create tangible objects that hold the promise of intentional, future actions.

Session 1: 3–4 pm
Session 2: 4:30–5:30 pm

This program is a special edition of Weeksville Weekends, produced by A Blade of Grass and Weeksville Heritage Center, and inspired by visiting artist Jordan Weber's installation 4 Malcolm X Greenhouse. Weeksville Weekends is a free community day with art workshops, tours of the Historic Hunterfly Road Houses, self-care sessions, and live performances on the second Saturday of each month.
