Celebrate the culmination of this year's Turn It Up! Summer Reading Challenge with an experimental sound and movement workshop inspired by science fiction writer Octavia Butler! Museum educator ray ferreira of the Octavia Project will lead participants through a series of exercises exploring communication and language as inspired by Butler's short story “Speech Sounds.”
This Studio Salon is part of the Museum's ongoing partnership with George Bruce Library and is presented as part of inHarlem, The Studio Museum in Harlem's initiative designed to explore innovative ways to work in the community while taking the Museum beyond its own walls.
inHarlem is made possible thanks to Citi; William R. Kenan Jr. Charitable Trust; Rockefeller Brothers Fund; and The Shelley & Donald Rubin Foundation. Additional support is generously provided by The New York City Department of Cultural Affairs; the New York State Council on the Arts with the support of Governor Andrew Cuomo and the New York State Legislature, and the New York City Council.
