Langston Hughes House, 20 E 127 St, New York, NY 10035
Join us on Friday, June 29 from 7 to 10 pm for the launch of the second annual Brown Paper Zine and Small Press Fair at Langston Hughes House! Presented by 3 DOT ZINE
, the fair highlights the work of black and POC writers, artists, and designers in the print and self-publishing world. 3 DOT ZINE is a collaborative, submission-based zine founded by artist Devin N. Morris in 2014 that serves as a forum for invited artists to center and elaborate on marginalized concerns.
The launch will feature performances and installations by RAFiA Santana, Helina Metaferia, and Christina Long as well as musical selections by Lawrence Burney
of True Laurels
. Creator of the biannual zine #BLKGRLSWURLD, Christina Long will give an improvisational musical performance and reading, followed by performance artist Helina Metaferia's site-specific performance and video installation, which will respond to the history of Langston Hughes House. Metaferia's work investigates the role of the body as both subject and object in art, and transnational identity, diaspora, and gender in the context of her Ethiopian-American heritage. Finally, the Brooklyn-born-and-raised RAFiA Santana will finish off with a live musical and video performance. The fair continues on June 30 and July 1 at Barnard Hall, with the support of the Barnard Library.
This program is presented as part of inHarlem
, a dynamic set of collaborative programs in our neighborhood. The Museum's groundbreaking exhibitions, thought-provoking conversations, and engaging art-making workshops continue at a variety of partner and satellite locations in Harlem.
